On site is a fully equipped and functional rehabilitation gym that houses specialist equipment which is specific to the rehabilitation of certain injuries. With 30 years excellent service on the Central coast, HSSMC is one of the longest established multi discipline Sports Medicine centres in Australia.

 

Plastering / Casting / Splints / Braces

We have access to the latest technology in Exo braces. These are an adjustable brace and can be used for the upper extremity, lower extremity, and spine. The Exos advanced technology allows a clinician to mold the brace directly to the patient for the best possible fit, comfort and stabilization. Orthotics

Orthotics are devices worn in your shoes that provide correction to your feet, helping them to function more efficiently. Poor foot function and alignment may be the cause of various pain such as foot pain, knee pain, hip pain and even back pain.

Footwear

Along with orthotics, appropriate footwear is extremely important to enable ideal foot function and alignment.

The team at Hills Street has been giving patients advice on footwear for many years. For this reason Hills Street is now stocking a number of specifically selected shoes and thongs to help address biomechanical issues, allowing both comfort and stability. [Continue]

Back and neck pain

Hands-on manual therapy plays an important role in the treatment, not only of back and neck pain, but also headache, and is extensively used both in the acute and chronic stages. Our Physiotherapists will also begin an active rehabilitation when appropriate, making use of a vast array of equipment. [continue]

Shoulder Injuries

Shoulder injuries may result from a traumatic event such as a dislocation or subluxation, or from overuse or degeneration such as many rotator cuff problems.

An accurate diagnosis will be made by your physiotherapist or they will arrange referral for appropriate investigations such as ultrasound or MRI. [continue]

Knee Injuries

Our Physiotherapists specialise in knee pain caused by specific injuries or overuse. There are a number of knee injuries that can have a sginificant effect on a person’s function and athletic performance, including:

Ligament Injuries (Anterior Cruciate Ligament, Posterior Cruciate Ligament)
Dislocated or subluxed patella,
Meniscal Injuries (damaged/torn meniscus(cartilage) and damaged joint surfaces. [continue]

Ankle & Foot Injuries

Ankle injuries are extremely common in sports such as netball, basketball and soccer, but may also strike in the simple day to day environment. The most common injury is an ankle sprain where the patient rolls their ankle, tearing ligaments. If, following an ankle sprain, adequate movement is not restored at the ankle, then the risk of further damage is significantly increased. [continue]

 

Growing Pains

'Growing pains' is a common term used for symptoms experienced by a child or adolescent during, or immediately following, a growth spurt. The mechanism of this painful and sometimes debilitating condition is related to soft tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves) becoming stretched and over extended as a result of new skeletal (bone) growth. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, or otherwise known as BPPV, is a common condition causing dizziness in the public and is regularly misdiagnosed. If you have been suffering from dizzy spells and constant dizzy attacks when sitting up from a seated position, or getting in and out of bed, than perhaps you are suffering from this debilitating condition. Musculoskeletal Screening

At Hills St Sports Medicine Centre we offer athletes musculoskeletal screenings. These are an assessment by a physiotherapist to identify any problem areas that may impact you in your sport or daily life. These are beneficial for injury prevention and sports performance. [continue]

Myofascial Therapy

Hills Street has a KMI practitioner, Denny Shearwood, who is a trained structural integrator. Denny has been trained by Tom Myers and uses his Anatomy Trains methods for freeing up postural dysfunctions and management of chronic pain. While he incorporates these techniques into his day to day treatment, Denny also runs a 12 session body work program and has had remarkable success.
